Hope Through Heritage
Nelson Mandela Capture Site
On August 5, 1962, Nelson Mandela was arrested on a quiet, unassuming road outside Howick, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. That moment marked the beginning of his 27-year imprisonment - a profound personal sacrifice in his unwavering fight against apartheid.

What began as a simple arrest transformed into a defining moment in South African history. Mandela’s capture turned him into a global symbol of resistance, unity, and the pursuit of a non-racial, democratic society.

Today, the Nelson Mandela Capture Site invites visitors to reflect on this pivotal event. Through a powerful and immersive experience, the site honours Mandela’s extraordinary legacy and the courage of the countless individuals who stood beside him in the struggle for justice.

It is a place to remember, to learn, and to celebrate the triumph of freedom over oppression.
